Registration Opens for Swim, Golf and Indoor Baseball Programs

Town of Liberty offers fun programs to help keep kids active this spring and summer.

LIBERTY, N.Y. (April 18, 2017) – Spring is officially in full swing and the Town of Liberty has plenty of fun-filled programs for children this spring and summer season. Hosted by the town’s Parks and Recreation Department, registration is now open for the junior golf program, swim lessons and youth indoor baseball training.

The Town of Liberty Junior Golf Program is a great way to develop the skills necessary to appreciate and enjoy the game of golf. Clinics will run every Saturday in May (May 6, May 13, May 20 and May 27) and the first two Saturdays in June (June 3 and June 10) at the Oscar Browns at The Sullivan County Golf and Country Club. The clinic is available for children grades 2nd through 12th, and will focus on fundamental golf swing skills, basic knowledge of golf rules, course etiquette, and honesty and integrity. The cost for Liberty residents is $20 and the cost for non-residents is $30.

Swim lesson programs are a great way to teach children to learn to swim or to better his or her skills for the summer season. Classes will be held for children ages three and up at the pool at Hanofee Park. Additionally, the Junior Lifeguard Program is designated for children ages 11 – 14, giving children a successful jumpstart into lifeguarding. The lessons are held twice a week – Monday and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays – in the mornings from July 3 through August 10th.  The cost for one child is $50 for Liberty residents and $80 for non-residents; for two children the cost is $70 for Liberty residents and $100 for non-residents; for three children the cost is $90 for Liberty residents and $120 for non-residents; and for four children the cost is $110 for Liberty residents and $140 for non-residents. Registration is currently open for Liberty residents and will open for non-resident registration on May 1st during regular office hours.

The Youth Indoor Baseball Training class focuses on having fun while learning the basic fundamentals of baseball and softball. The class will introduce and cover the basics of a proper stance and set-up, and swing fundamentals. The sessions are taught in a progressive manner, but also at a pace for the skill level. The class is offered for five-weeks and is available for children grades 2nd and 3rd on Thursdays from 6 – 7 p.m. at the Liberty Middle School Gym, and for children grades 4th through 7th on Wednesdays from 6 – 7 p.m. at the Liberty High School Gym. The cost for Liberty residents is $20 and the cost for non-residents is $30.

“We have plenty of opportunities for local children to stay active this spring and summer season,” said Town of Liberty Parks and Recreation Assistant Recreation Director James Guara. “Our programs teach children the necessary skills for each sport while providing fun, friendship and sportsmanship.”
