Town of Liberty Announces Winter Programs for Kids

Signup for youth basketball, wrestling and ‘Kids in Our Kitchen’ Program

LIBERTY, N.Y. (December 27, 2017) – With the winter season officially upon us, the Town of Liberty Parks & Recreation Department has launched indoor kid-friendly programs to enjoy during the colder months. Programs include youth basketball, wrestling and a ‘Kids in Our Kitchen’ program.

The youth basketball program is designed for both boys and girls in grades 2nd through 6th. Youth basketball offers the basic fundamentals of basketball with a competitive edge. The six-week program will be held at the Liberty High School Gymnasium on the following Saturdays: January 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th and February 3rd and 10th from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. The cost for Liberty residents is $20 per child and the cost for non-Liberty residents is $30 per child.

Signup for the Liberty Warriors Wrestling Club has also started. The program will introduce participants to the basic skills of wrestling in a competitive environment. Kids will develop skills in wrestling while enjoying fun, friendship, physical activity and sportsmanship. Participants must be in grades 2nd through 6th and the club meets Monday evenings in the Liberty High wrestling room on January 22nd and 29th as well as February 5th, 12th and 26th from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. The cost for Liberty residents is $20 per child and the cost for non-Liberty residents is $30 per child.

The ‘Kids in Our Kitchen’ program is perfect for those interested in learning culinary skills or improving them. Designed for kids in kindergarten through 6th grade, each week participants obtain hands-on fundamentals of baking, food preparation and food safety. The program will run on February 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th. Parks and Recreation staff members will pick-up students in kindergarten through 4th grade at the Elementary School. The cost for Liberty residents is $25 per child and the cost for non-Liberty residents is $35 per child.

“We are thrilled to offer these indoor programs to kids in the Liberty area,” said Town of Liberty Parks and Recreation Assistant Recreation Director James Guara. “With the cold winter months, these programs are great for kids to continue with physical activity while having fun too.”

Winter registration is currently on-going for these programs. For more information, call 845-292-7690 or visit the Town of Liberty’s website: www.townofliberty.org.
