Volunteers Continue Community Improvement Projects in Liberty with Roundabout Plantings

LIBERTY, N.Y. (June 24, 2016) – Liberty Volunteers have been hard at work this Spring and Summer beautifying their community. The improvements are being funded in part by the 2016 Renaissance Municipal Partnership Grant the town and village were jointly awarded in March. Most recently, volunteers planted flowers and added mulch to the two roundabouts approaching the village.

“Liberty residents have come out in force to volunteer their time to help beautify their town and create a healthier community,” said Liberty Town Supervisor Charlie Barbuti. “We are thankful for all their hard work and encourage even more residents to join the effort.”

Additional improvements will be completed over the next few weeks. Projects will include replanting and maintenance of public parks and spaces, clearing the existing rail trails in Parksville and Liberty, as well as installing more signage to direct visitors to Liberty’s many parks and rail trails. Anyone interested in volunteering should email Liberty Town Supervisor Charlie Barbuti at c.barbuti@townofliberty.org to get on the list of volunteers.

Specific plans include:

• creation and enhancement of green spaces, including plantings, flags and kiosks, including the two traffic circles that serve as gateways to Liberty
• increased legal code enforcement of highly visible neglected properties
• improved signage and maps for the Rail Trails, Walnut Mountain and Hanofee Parks

The town and village are also in the running for a $100,000 capital grant secured by Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, which will be awarded in August.
