Town of Liberty programs have grown in strength and size over the past decade.

LIBERTY, N.Y. (August 31, 2016) – The Town of Liberty is football territory, and this Sullivan County community trains its players early and well for future success. This season marks the 10th year youth Warrior football players and cheerleaders will take the field. The programs have grown significantly since their inception in 2006. During the inaugural year, there were 45 football players and 5 coaches. This fall, the program has approximately 65 players and 15 to 20 coaches and volunteers.

Recreation officials see a connection between the growing youth football program and the Liberty High School team’s success. “The first group of kids to come through our program just graduated high school in June, and that high school team went undefeated during the regular season and made it to the state semifinals,” said Town of Liberty Parks and Recreation Assistant Director James Guara.“So, there is a direct correlation between our youth football program and the success of the high school program.”

There are three Liberty Warriors tackle football teams, and players range from 2nd graders to 6th graders. The cheerleading program has grown, as well, with 15 active cheerleaders taking part in the popular program. During home games, there’s a full service concession stand, and Liberty Warriors attire is sold. The games get a tremendous amount of support from the Liberty community.
