Town of Liberty to Hold Memorial Day Parade

Parade to honor fallen American heroes followed by special service at Liberty Veteran’s Cemetery

LIBERTY, N.Y. (May 9, 2019) – The Town of Liberty will hold its Annual Memorial Day Parade and Service on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. along the Main Street in the Village of Liberty. The parade is organized by the Town of Liberty Councilmen, the Liberty Veteran’s Services Officer and the American Legion Post #109, with the support of the Village of Liberty.

The parade lineup will start on West Liberty Street at 10:30 a.m. and begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. The Memorial Day Parade will travel through the Town of Liberty business district, proceed down Church Street, and end at the Liberty Veteran’s Cemetery on Cold Spring Road. Once at the cemetery, there will be a service to honor war heroes. The service will feature keynote speaker, Sullivan County District Attorney James Farrell as well as guest speaker, New York State Police PBA President Thomas Mungeer.

Keynote Speaker District Attorney James Farrell has been working for the people of Sullivan County as a prosecutor for the last 23 years and is committed to the safety and security of Sullivan County, especially in the Veteran’s Court for the treatment and rehabilitation of veterans who have honorably served our country.

Guest speaker PBA President Thomas Mungeer grew up in Liberty and has served on various special details throughout his career including being a first responder in 9/11.  Trooper Mungeer has served as a New York State Trooper for over 25 years.  He has served as President of the New York State PBA since 2009.

In addition to the guest speakers, the Memorial Day services will include a Pledge to the Flag by Cub Scout Troop 717, a gun salute by the Liberty Police Department and American Legion #109, and more. Following the service, the Liberty Elks will provide light refreshments at the Elks Lodge, located at 21 John Street.
