Town of Liberty to Host 9/11 Memorial Service

LIBERTY, N.Y. (August 28, 2019) – The Town of Liberty will hold a 9/11 Memorial Service on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Liberty Main Street Stage. The service is sponsored and hosted by Town of Liberty Supervisor Brian P. Rourke, along with Town Councilmen Dean Farrand, Russell Reeves, Vincent McPhillips and Brian McPhillips.

The 9/11 Memorial Service will commence with a welcome from Supervisor Brian P. Rourke. This year’s keynote address will be given by Deputy County Manager John Liddle, a 20-year veteran of the United States Navy. Liddle participated in the initial military response to 9/11 as the Gunnery Officer aboard the USS Princeton. Liddle retired from military service as Executive Assistant to Vice Admiral Mary Jackson, the Commander responsible for all 71 United States Navy bases around the world.

Cub Scout Troop 717 will lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by an opening prayer and moment of silent remembrance by Pastor Norman Graves. Graves will also perform the song “Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning”. Bud LeConey, of Liberty United Methodist Church will give a scripture reading, and Henrietta Phelps will offer parting words.

“Liberty will never forget the thousands of innocent and brave people who died needlessly on September 11, 2001,” said Town of Liberty Supervisor, Brian P. Rourke. “On this day, we gather together as a community to honor the memories of lost loved ones – our own and those who were dear to others. We pay our respects to the heroic men and women who faced fear and peril with valor that day, in service to their fellow man.”

In the event of inclement weather, the 9/11 Memorial Service will be moved indoors to the Liberty Firehouse on Sprague Avenue. For more information, call (845) 292-5111.
