Town of Liberty Announces Foreclosure Prevention Program Seminar

Program offered by the Attorney General of NYS to help struggling homeowners.

LIBERTY, N.Y. (March 1, 2018) – The Town of Liberty will be hosting two Foreclosure Prevention Program seminars to help struggling families at risk of losing their homes. The Foreclosure Prevention Program seminars will be held on Monday March 12th at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday April 21st at 1:30 p.m. at the Senior Citizen Center, 119 North Main Street in Liberty.

Programs under the direction of the NYS Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, are being implemented to prevent the creation of “Zombie” properties. As homeowners fall behind in their mortgage payments and are notified of a foreclosure proceeding, they leave their homes. Consequently, no maintenance is done, and these houses fall in to disrepair.  These abandoned, vacant and unmaintained properties are known as “Zombie” properties.

The three signature programs offered by the NYS Attorney General to help families fighting to stay in their homes or to avoid foreclosures are the Homeowners Protection Program (HOPP), the New York State Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP) and AGScamHelp.com. Residents interested in the Foreclosure Prevention Program, can contact 1-800-771-7755 or visit www.ag.ny.gov.

“We encourage residents to take advantage of these programs and utilize the various services offered,” said Liberty Town Supervisor Brian Rourke. “The two seminars we are offering in March and April will be a helpful resource to our residents interested in learning more about the Foreclosure Prevention Program.”
